Career Opportunity – Maintenance & Systems Optimization Manager

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance & Systems Optimization Manager to analyze and improve existing processes using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, identifying inefficiencies, and leading cross-functional teams to design and implement optimized workflows. This position manages projects end-to-end-including scope, timelines, and budgets-while analyzing key performance indicators to drive data-based decisions. Additionally, the role leads organizational change initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and cost performance, and oversees the daily operations of the maintenance department.

Project Management & Process Improvement

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to increase productivity, reduce scrap and rework, and lower operating costs.
  • Analyze production and performance data to identify efficiency gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Manage assigned projects end-to-end, ensuring adherence to scope, timelines, and budgets.
  • Develop equipment specifications and partner with suppliers to oversee commissioning, qualification, and production release.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering and Operations to implement process and technology improvements.
  • Research, evaluate, and integrate new technologies into existing production lines to drive operational excellence.
  • Conduct production rate reviews to meet throughput targets and identify optimization opportunities.

Maintenance Operations & Technical Leadership

  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for the maintenance department, ensuring high equipment availability and minimal downtime.
  • Manage daily maintenance activities, preventive maintenance schedules, work orders, parts inventory, and vendor relationships using the CMMS.
  • Establish and refine equipment maintenance procedures to support production schedules and reliability targets.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and automation issues using structured root-cause analysis.
  • Review production and operating reports to resolve maintenance, manufacturing, and operational issues.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable safety, electrical, and equipment standards (NFPA 79, NFPA 70, NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA, ANSI).
  • Support maintenance activities involving hydraulics, motion control systems, servos, machine vision, PLCs, and automated systems.

Material Review Board (MRB)

  • Participate in weekly MRB meetings to investigate nonconformances, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead or support 8D investigations and validate effectiveness of corrective actions using tools such as 5 Whys and fishbone diagrams.

Safety, Training & People Leadership

  • Actively support plant safety programs through participation in safety committees and incident investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental policies; address non-compliance in partnership with Production and HR leadership.
  • Partner with HR to recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate maintenance personnel.
  • Participate in the Training Steering Committee to identify and coordinate required technical and safety training.

Other Responsibilities

  • Serve on Lean and Continuous Improvement Steering Committees; apply 6S and Lean principles across operations.
  • Perform Internal Audits to support quality and compliance objectives.
  • Manage the Employee Suggestion Program to drive improvement initiatives. Perform additional duties as required to support operational objectives.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This individual manages Maintenance personnel and is responsible for giving direction, coordinating, and evaluating this department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years in the field of project management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proven management experience in industrial maintenance or facilities management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong supervisory skills with demonstrated leadership in guiding technical teams.
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms for work order management and maintenance planning.
  • Mechanical knowledge related to industrial machinery and general facilities infrastructure.
  • Experience with project management from planning through execution of maintenance projects or system upgrades.
  • Can obtain an OSHA 30-hour certification and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
