Over-specifying an alloy is one of the biggest factors in driving up the cost of a metal stamping. There are many different alloys produced, in ferrous and non-ferrous materials alike. The less common alloys are custom-produced by the mill and are available only in large quantities. For smaller quantities, it may be possible to find a vendor who is supplying the desired material to a larger customer. However, availability would depend on that customer’s requirements and delivery schedule.

The quality of steel products has greatly improved in the last 20 years. Continuous casting yields a very consistent and homogenous alloy mix. From our experience, today’s metals are more ductile and of a much more consistent quality. Warehoused stock alloys can be ordered in various quanitities.
